McGeorge Consulting Ltd. is a development and innovation-based company with interests in Agriculture and related Development Consultancy.
To address the many gaps in the agricultural value chain, an innovative app called ‘asmartfarm’ was developed ‘asmartfarm’ is a farm management app designed to help farmers optimize their farming operations through automated farm record keeping of farming cycle.
‘asmartfarm’ is an Enterprise Resource Planning software with integrated modules that are designed to help farmers optimally keep farm records from input to post-harvest, enable farmers to carry out soil tests using a Geographical Information System (GIS), get market information and linkages, generate reports that can be used to make relevant bankable and investment decisions as well as informing models around other Agricultural related best practices and research. It was developed using the python framework that contains pre-programmed standard operating procedures (SOPs) for various crops so that farmers can have prompts delivered to their mobile phones on what steps to take at every point in time during the crop lifecycle.
It is well suitable for a cooperative-focused and multi-farm application that is user-friendly that can be adapted to different online and offline locations. The app also integrates third-party apps such as Sentinel 2 and Google Weather Station to proactively advise on weather conditions and also conduct remote soil testing to determine which crops are best suited for their farms.
This app is designed to improve farm profitability and to provide needed information to stakeholders in the value-chain through innovative, automated, and data-driven farming processes and can be used by small, medium, and large-scale farmers, cooperative societies or NGOs, companies in the agricultural value system, and governmental agencies.
For a start, asmartfarm has the potential to engage over 10,000 agricultural extension agents, over 50,000 Farmers, 1,000 Researchers, 5,000 cooperative societies, 100 International and Local NGOs, about 100 Research centers and Institutes, 500 agro-based companies and industries.
